BJC Order Of Grades

Primary, up to and including 9 years

A White Belt is always used for under 10 years. Only the colour of the tabs changes.

Ichi = One
Ni = Two
San = Three
RED tabs
(Red only used here to indicate under 10 years)

These three grades are followed in order by:
Ichi, Ni, San, (One, Two, Three)
ORANGE, GREEN, BLUE and BROWN tabs.
(Total of 16 possible grades, including the first basic White Belt).


Junior, 10 to 16 years

6th Kyu White Belt + Ichi, Ni, San - Yellow tabs.
5th Kyu Yellow Belt + Ichi, Ni, San - Orange tabs.
4th Kyu Orange Belt + Ichi, Ni, San - Green tabs.
3rd Kyu Green Belt + Ichi, Ni, San - Blue tabs.
+ Ichi, Ni, San - Brown tabs.
+ Ichi, Ni, San - Black tabs.
(Total of 22 possible grades.)


Transferring from Primary to Junior Grade

Red tabs White + 1 Yellow tab
Orange tabs White + 2 Yellow tabs
Green tabs White + 3 Yellow tabs
Blue tabs 5th Kyu ( Yellow Belt )
Brown tabs5th Kyu + 1 Orange tab
This is a general guide exceptional students may be transferred to an appropriate higher grade.
